Hot Nite in the City 25th Annual car show in Kamloops. The car show started in Kamloops as a summer evening show & shine back some 24 years ago. It grew beyond what the organizers anticipated and is now a full day show with a misleading name – it no longer happens at night! Cars fill Victoria Street and the connecting avenues from 1st Avenue to 6th Avenue. Also that weekend, Ribfest, since 2012, has become a signature family event in Kamloops and has raised over $392,000! 100% of this money has been put back into the community, with no administration fees. Ribfest is held in Riverside Park, a very short walk from the Hot Nite show.

This year’s car show date is SATURDAY AUGUST 10, 2019. Poker run the night before. Last year saw 545 entered vehicles and a crowd of approximately 60,000! Not a small event by any definition.

Brock Nanson, our VP & Local Coordinator for Kamloops, has arranged for Model S cars to be entered the last three years (10 to 15 last year), and has drawn a very interested crowd. Paul Carter was also there a year prior to Brock’s participation and also had a very interested crowd and a great event helping out BC Sustainable Energy.

Last year, Brock has worked with the City of Kamloops to extend the annual show to include an EV entry category and Best in Class trophy. The organizers have agreed to dedicate a section of the show (an avenue) to EV’s and related exhibits. Second Avenue will be advertised as “Electric Avenue”. At this point, we expect:

  • A banner over the street advertising ELECTRIC AVENUE
  • EV’s on display – A variety of EV’s, not just Tesla vehicles – the more, the better!
  • Solar panel displays
  • Charging equipment display (Electrum Charging has committed to attending)
  • EMOTIVE display
  • Our Club booth display with Paul’s Model X
  • Tourism Kamloops presence (EV Tourism program discussions have started)
  • Tesla is likely to attend (still to be confirmed) with a booth and may possibly offer Test Drives the next day to owners & prospective future owners.

The City is very excited about Electric Avenue and has involved Tourism Kamloops to help advertise and promote the event. Please see the attached ‘Digital Poster’, prepared by Tourism Kamloops.

If you could print and display a copy on any event bulletin board at your office it would be greatly appreciated.

Special room rates for EV entrants have been secured at two of the local hotels with Destination Charging equipment. The Best Western Plus will offer a rate of $135 single and $150 double (Regular rate is $175.99). The Block of rooms can be booked under: “Electric Ave.” The Best Western Plus will do around 10 standard rooms and maybe 5 upgraded (higher price) with a 3 week cutoff (July 21). Hotel 540 is prepared to offer 15% off their Best Available Rate to anyone with an Electric Vehicle (must be mentioned when booking).

We’re very excited about Electric Avenue! There’s no reason it couldn’t become a regular part of the annual show, especially given the attention the Model S entries have attracted in past years. We think this will be a very worthwhile event for Tesla Club members to support and attend! Not only is it an ideal event to talk ‘EV’ with the public, it’s also a great opportunity to mix with other EV owners and Tesla Owners Club members!

As noted above, it’s worth noting that Interior Savings Daybreak Rotary Ribfest also runs over the same weekend at Riverside Park, a couple of blocks away. Great entertainment every night of the week all summer long in the park as well!
